God so Loved the World

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

I. God’s Love for Man

1) Identity & Nature: The sermon stated, “God loves because He is love — a lion roars, a dog barks, and God loves.” How does knowing that God’s love flows from His nature, rather than your worthiness, change the way you relate to Him?

2) Evidence & Assurance: We heard that God’s love shows up in creation, providence, redemption, His presence, discipline, and His promises. Which of these evidences have you personally experienced most clearly, and how did it shape your trust in Him?

II. Man’s Love for God

3) Gratitude as a Doorway: The sermon warned that pride, entitlement, comparison, bitterness, and fear can kill gratitude — and that gratitude is the doorway to love and worship. Which of these “enemies of gratitude” do you struggle with most, and how might remembering God’s love help you overcome it?

4) Expressions of Love: Loving God is shown through obedience, worship, and trust.

Which of these three is most natural for you, and which is hardest? Why do you think that is?

5) Transactional Mindset: The message said humans are naturally transactional but God’s love isn’t.

How have you seen a transactional approach to faith (trying to earn favor) creep into your own life, and what helps you fight it?

III. Christian’s Love for Mankind

6) Costly Love: We were called to “lay down our lives” — not just in death, but in daily choices of time, energy, and resources. What is one practical way you could lay down part of your life this week for someone else?

7) Loving When It’s Hard:

Jesus commands us to love enemies and those who may reject us. What’s one real situation (past or present) where loving someone felt unnatural or costly? How might remembering God’s love for you reshape your response?
